v1.9 503 Service temporarily available after backup, cant get to either site or admin

Can anybody help? I set a backup for website yesterday after security scan suggested need to add patches.

Site was put in maintenance mode hasn't auto come back out after backup.

I have no idea how to get it back out as can't access admin pages.

I'm a complete novice (we were let down a few years ago by web developers after lots spent) and therefore other than products not touched site since. Have been warned it needed patches and update to newer 1.9 version from 1.9.0.1 that's why I set a back up.

I don't know how or where to run that script. Can you send me a pointer please.

Okay just go to magento root folder there you have to remove .maintenance.flag

Very sorry, as said complete novice, how do I get to root folder if I cant access the site admin.

I take it there is another way to access it  other than https://www.envirouk.com/index.php/admin

I do have access to the database for the site? Via the host platform.

This give me access to PHPMyAdmin
