Community Monthly Update - May 2022

Hello all!

Welcome to the Community Monthly Update for May.

Forrester Names Adobe Commerce a Strong Performer

The Forrester WaveTM reports for both B2B and B2C Commerce Solutions Q2 2022 are out, and Adobe was named a Strong Performer in both. Forrester highlighted our continued business growth, significant improvements in search and merchandising, our ability to support B2B and B2C from one platform, and our strong innovation roadmap. PHP attributes instead of annotation tags for Adobe Commerce tests

Recently, we introduced parameterized fixture for integration and api-functional test that accepts parameters directly from @magentoDataFixture annotation.
We enhanced @magentoDataFixture annotation format to support additional information that contains the parameters and the alias of a fixture. And we introduced a new annotation @magentoDataFixtureDataProvider for advanced fixture configuration.
However, with the current implementation, fixture parameters has to be passed in JSON format which is hard to read and maintain. PHP 8.0 introduced a new feature (Attributes) that we can utilize to generate fixtures instead of DocBlock annotations which will enable us to use PHP build in syntax and increase the code readability.Read more and vote for proposal: https://github.com/magento/architecture/pull/509

Storefront Catalog Service for Adobe Commerce

In the last Community Hangouts, we introduced the new Storefront Catalog Service for Adobe Commerce. Storefront Catalog Service will be a performant multi-tenant SaaS service that provides rich view-model catalog data to power storefront shopping experiences. Its benefits include the following:

  1. Performant new APIs for fetching storefront catalog data
  2. Eliminating "effective SKU" limitations and bottlenecks
  3. Offloading Commerce server load to external SaaS services maintained by Adobe
  4.  Increased scalability, composability, and reliability of the platform

This new capability is in active development, with the goal of being available for Beta in Q3 2022. If you are interested in learning more, make sure to watch the recording and get in touch with Misha Kotov or in #storefront-services slack channel.
