What happened to all the support threads that used to be available at http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/

There was a huge resource available there which seems to have disappeared

Hi @DavidB, the old forums were taken down in 2014 and replaced with these forums in March 2015. The old forums were full of spam and outdated information, but you can still access anything you have bookmarked by using the Internet Archive: https://archive.org/web/

While it might have been outdated, it still had useful information in it that isn't replicated in the new forums. Based on the lack of response to the issue I was researching that gave rise to this, it appears that reposting questions that were answered in the old forums may well go unanswered.

Not retaining the old forums in at least a searchable form seems like a poor decision.

In all honesty, I wish they were around as well - if for no other reason then to reflect on the (likely) thousands of hours I put into them back in those days. I wasn't a part of the decision, but they've been gone for five years now and there's nothing that can be done at this point.

Which issue were you looking for help with, perhaps I can assist?

If you're looking for a trip down memory lane, it does appear that they were crawled by Archive.org: https://web.archive.org/web/20131231003819/http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/

You can actually browse through the old forums this way.  It's not the same thing as having the old forums live and crawled by Google, but it's good for nostalgia, and perhaps spot-checking something that you could swear was in a particular post.
