This question is not new and actually has many answers. Here are 2 of them:

1. You can use Improved Layered Navigation instead of advanced search. The Navigation gives much more flexibility for choosing search parameters. It also supports multi select option.

2. You can use default Magento search but add a filter to the results. For example, you can use Product parts Finder for filtering. But this extension is quite specific as it's used for searching parts of products rather than products themselves. So it depends on your store.
