If you are still using Magento 1, maybe you could evalute to jump to OpenMage https://www.openmage.org/
On the other hand, with repespect to M1, we are talking about software whose architecture and resources were thought out 15 years ago, so it does not seem reasonable to be questioning that it does not work perfectly today or that there is no extension that continues to offer support. For better or worse, there is a newer major version (Magento 2) that better fits current coding paradigms, and extension providers will choose what works best for them.
From what you have told, perhaps OpenMage can be a solution to the situation you describe.
