So I tried creating a configurable product (no simple products existing for the attribute set) and want to use the manufacturer drop down in the configurable rather than storing it in the simple product variants.
The issue I ran into is that even though my attribute set has it listed as an attribute the manufacturer option does not display and only shows up as part of the simple products.
What this leads to is that my configurable product (front end) has an unnecessary drop down (manufacturer) before the customer can choose a colour. Since all simple products will be the same manufacturer this seems redundant.
I am using Improved Layered Navigation so have removed the Manufacturer filter and added a Brand one instead which is working.
Is there anything I am doing wrong?
Why can't Manufacturer be selected on the configurable?
