problem with product availability

Hi, i'm running 1.9.3.4 CE version and i have a problem with product availability.

For example,

there is a configurable product with some sizes (L, XL etc). 
When the stock of all of the simple products (L, XL etc) is zero, the product seems out of stock only in the product details page, but not in the category page.

I can only make it to seem as out of stock in the category page only if i manual set the configurable product as out of stock.

Shouldn't that be done automatically?
