Hello

- flush cache (always try it)
- check your domain name
- check the cookie domain (core_config_data table or from the bo in system > config )
- check your file permissions
- if you use varnish, check your config
- check your htaccess.

Basically, this is because of how PHP stores cookie session and how Magento needs to resolve localhost.

The easiest solution to this is to just use http://localho.st instead of http://localhost when you setup your store (or change it in base-url) if you already set it up.

Right, so what that domain does is resolve dns to your own localhost web server (neat domain to be honest) and it conforms to magento and php needs to have an extension (which localhost does not).

I'm pretty sure that this is an issue with cookies. Sometimes it happens with me as well, not only Magento but other web applications as well. However, what I found super useful is that I first use it on the local system before deploying it to the online servers. So in when I'm done with all the configuration, then either I copy the steps one by one again for the online service, or I just copy the files and store them on the online server. That's it. The first thing is, you should check whether you are getting this error in chrome or anyone another browser as well. If you're only getting this error in Chrome only, then definitely it's a problem related to cookies, no doubt in that. Now, you just need to clear your browser's history, and you're done. If that's not working, then try login from other browsers because it might be a new release issue in Chrome, I've faced a similar thing before.
