Goolge search and seo topics--indexing site pages

I have a couple technical issues with my  magento setup.

long story short, my homepages are not indexing.

I have turned on the feature in magento to not show the page name ( so homepage shows as www.site.com  and not www.site.com/index.php )

then because I had an issue with pages being indexed twice ( with and without trailing slash) I had all my pages with a slash directed to the version without a slash

problem now in google search engine when I want to have the homepages indexed manually it says the page is being redirected , but google search , for the homepage does not let me specify the version without a trailing slash..

so how can i redirect all pages to non trailing slash versions except homepage?

Short answer: you don't need to .com and .com/ is the same page as far as google is concerned. they'll handle it

if google is not indexing your homepage something else is going on there, something serious

without seeing the URL i would have to do a check to know what it is
