I'm debugging a issue with our shipper timing out on requests with our M1 installation.
When looking through the logs I see dozens of requests an hour where the address info is sent out with blank fields in most of them. Which causes the rate request to toss out an error that the shipper can't return a rate.
After a little experimentation I realize that the estimator is attempting to get a rate on every single cart load, whether it has information or not. I had 9 requests in a row with completely blank info sent to ShipperHQ for a rate. Looking deeper a customer hit the cart 9 times, checking out on his final visit. I'm pretty sure every page visit caused the estimator to request a rate update.
We don't want to remove the feature, it gets a lot of use. We only want it to get a rate/tax when the customer hits the button.
