@ConsultD

Yes possible!

1. In order to show static blocks into category page, choose 'Display Mode"  as "Static blocks or stctics blocks and products" from Display settings. (Catalog >> Manage categories)

2. Use widgets features. CMS >> Widgets.

1. Create static block and make sure status is enable. (CMS >> Static Blocks)

2. Create new widget and choose your theme and assign All store view or choose your store.

3. from Layoout Updates tab, choose Display on; in your case choose "specific page"

4. From Page drop down choose "CMS Home page" and from "Block Reference" choose "Left column"

5. From "Widget Options" tab you need to choose your statick block.

6. That'it and save and check on FE.

Hope it helps you, good luck Smiley Happy

what you describe right now is not something I did so far....will try today and make my experiences and reportt back Smiley Happy

honestly what I had hoped for was something like clicking on the link button in the editor and enter somethiung like "tags=x"...not possible in the editor?

Thank you so much

Not sure for your last line but seems that, you may ask for external link, yes you can add through WYSWING editor. Basically I'd replied you how to show static pages on specific pages. And whatever content you've added into Static and CMS pages should be show into pages.

@GauravMehta04

THanks again so much!

Will try, right now missing the expirience to imagine the steps Smiley Happy

My last line: In ie. Wordpress I can link an image with the editor, same in Magento if I am correct...

what I am missing for this method is a link which would open the "category" or "tag" product page...that's what I meant Smiley Happy

Will play with your suggestion to learn and use it

Thank you soo much!

Yes both things are possible image and link through editor. There is icons as insert or edit link. Below is Magento guide for your reference http://merch.docs.magento.com/ce/user_guide/Magento_Community_Edition_User_Guide.html
