Here's the scenario. I have the grouped product Cricut Vinyl Rolls which is assigned to the product category Vinyl.
On this Cricut Vinyl Rolls grouped product page, I have different color options all representing simple product pages that exist on the site, but do not appear in the Vinyl product category. This makes the categories a lot less cumbersome to scroll through, reducing Vinyl from hundreds of product tiles to just dozens.
What I want to know is, is there a way to set up layered navigation so that if somebody filters the Vinyl category for the color "red", the red version of the Cricut Vinyl Roll would appear in the layered navigation results? In other words, Red Cricut Vinyl Roll would not show in the product category results unless "red" is selected with layered navigation. Is there a way to configure this without gnarly programming?

Hi Nathan,
Yes, Magento does offer this capability.
To display that Red Cricut Vinyl Roll under the product listing page of that category separately, you should change the "Visibility" value of that simple product to "Catalog, Search" and it will be listed along with the configurable product (in your term Grouped Product).
Another option is, you can set the Red color Vinyl Roll image as in default while creating the configurable product. This way, this Red color product you don't need to display it separately.
