Difference between User and Customer

Hi Guys,

I want to understand if I add new customer from magento control panel then it add also new user in database?

And if new user registers in front website then it add new customer with customer group "Default" in database?

1. Yes, the new customer added from Magento control panel will also be added to the database

2. Yes, a new customer registered from front store will be added with customer group "Default" in the database
