Importing Problem: Error systemException Import Failed in 2.1.6CE

I have looked all over the internet for a solution and can not seem to find any. Is anyone else having this problem?

None of my import files work not even importing a file I just exported from my Magento admin works. The error is still the same no matter what I try to do. I am running Magento CE 2.1.6.

This is the error I get for every single import: <b>systemException. Notice: iconv_strlen(): Detected an illegal character in input string in /home/baker/public_html/vendor/magento/framework/Stdlib/StringUtils.php on line 151

This is the code to link 151 in StringUtils.php

return iconv_strlen($string, self::ICONV_CHARSET);

When I don't get this error the system just hangs at please wait with no visible errors or warnings.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes I have. I found out it was the file itself. I used Microsoft excel and
it put a bunch of junk when I saved the file. I ended up using Ron's Editor
to read and edit my csv files in. Also the inventory file I was using from
my distributor was not formated right it was all messed up.

just remove special chars from your description (or) short descriptions column. then try to import
