Password reset function mails to first person with that name

Hi,

Running Magento 2.2.3 in a test environment prior to migration.

I have several accounts to test different access permission levels.  I forgot one of my passwords.  I hit the 'forgot your password?' link on the homepage.  I typed in the correct email for the account with the forgotten password.  The password reset email went to another user with the same name.  Example:  John Smith (jsmith1@here.com) gets the email instead of John Smith (jsmith@another.com).  The latter is the one requesting the password reset.

The email also consistently goes into spam folder instead of inbox.

Any assistance is appreciated.  My apologies if this already was resolved.  I did a search and did not see anything with this issue.

Thank you,
Ken

Hello @picklepieken

Haven't heard of such an issue that forgot password email is going to some other person, are you sure the browser is not changing your input in the email field?

Also about the spam folder, there could be various reasons for it.

Re: Password reset function mails to first person with that name

Thank you for your reply, @theMageComp . The browser didn't change the email.

I did a work around by changing the name to Johnathan Smith and it worked.  I typed in the same account email of the forgotten password account (as before) and it was sent/received right away to the correct account email address.

Just thinking the lookup is going by the name vs email address.  I have about 19000 users and I'm sure this will be an issue if not fixed.  Not everyone uses a middle initial or name.  Email address is unique.

Thank you for the detail on the spam possible causes.  Issue is that we have an established base using our current website.  When we migrate to version 2.x, it looks like the confirmation emails on new account/password resets are coming from a 'new' entity.  I will try updating the emails to ensure they follow the naming protocol we have used in the current environment.

Hello @picklepieken

Glad to hear that.

About spam folder, if you haven't setup these things for your domain, please do so.

That will help you add trust (identification) for your email.
