easy spam/bot protection without captcha?

I'm having no luck with a captcha extension and do not want to use Google's captcha since its not GDPR compliant. I know that I need to have a way to protect my site from bots & spam. I know that I hate having to do captcha, and I want something that will fulfill these 3 criteria:

-be easy to use for the customer

-be effective against spam & bots

-be extremely easy to install as I'm totally new to Magento (crystal clear step by step instructions for how to install via SSH are an absolute must)

Suggestions?

Please try cloudflare for it...it's one of most popular ones nowadays.

I've run into multiple issues with Cloudfare as a user. My understanding is that its not that great in terms of security.
