Unable to communicate with the PayPal gateway

Hello

I used magento v1.9.2.1,i set up my paypal setting well, sandbox is off, SSl is  off, all the privilege from paypal has been set.

but still im getting this error: Unable to communicate with the PayPal gateway

any help plz?

I find the solution, It was about Outgoing Connections which web hosting company was blocking it, after talking with support, they allowed Outgoing connections to paypal website. now its working.

I had the same issue running on a AWS EC2 instance. I added the 'All Traffic' rule to the Outbound traffic in the security group.

Hi Guys,

Wanted to share how we solve the issue.

It turned out that the curl version on our server is outdated.

To test use this:

Run the following command: curl -v -s https://api-3t.sandbox.paypal.com/nvp

From OPS point of view it requires to update libcurl to 7.34 or later.
