If you're creating your bar/column chart using a Group By and have Time Interval = None, you can sort the results by clicking "Show Top/Bottom" next to your Group By column - see this docs page (https://docs.magento.com/mbi/data-analyst/dev-reports/order-data-top-bottom-feat.html). This feature also lets you choose to show a specified number of the highest/lowest values (e.g. top 5). If you're not using Time Interval = None, MBI will always put reports in date order.
