Introducing myself

Hey guys. I was told I should introduce myself before I start s**tposting so here goes nothing.

I'm a chilean entrepreneur. Started my own software company half a year ago. I'm working like 100 hours a week but I guess that's what happens when you're your only employee.

So, how and why I'm posting here? Well, a couple of clients are considering using e-commerce solutions and hosted services like shopify and whatnot are too limited when it comes to customization and non standard workflows.

So I thought: well, if they don't want mainstream solutions, I'll go for the most convoluted one I can find. So I went with PimCore, I hated it, I believe it's still running the migrations a month later.

I have some experience with woocommerce, and I've been tinkering with Wordpress for a few years. However it's not well suited for scale, and wordpress itself it a bit too coupled so anything you develop in wooccommerce will have to be coded from zero anyway.

Wow this was meant to be a short intro.

Re: Introducing myself

Hi Felipe,

I don't see a link in your original post, but welcome to the Magento Forums!

Magento is definitely more focused on the mid-market and enterprise than WooCommerce. I've worked with both, and I'd very much agree that Magento is a better fit for businesses that are looking to scale up - or that are already mid-size or larger.

Magento is a bigger application, so there's typically more work to launch and maintain a site than with Woo, but that's logical. I would say that most builds/migrations do take longer than a month, but it really depends on your experience, resources, and the size and complexity of the project. Keep in mind that, as a bigger software package, there can be a bit of an initial learning curve... but there's a very large and active community around Magento.

In any case, between the robust feature set that Magento has "off the shelf", and what you can add with existing Magento Extensions, you can do A LOT with Magento without having to reinvent the wheel: https://marketplace.magento.com/

If you have more specific questions about what Magento does and doesn't do, I hope that you'll add some new posts to these forums!

Best of luck!

Robert
