Confirmation email not sending in staging

Hello, apologies if this is asked before but  I am having trouble trying to find a post to answer this: I am new to Magento and I am trying to test out the order confirmation email. The email has been built and I have it enabled and set it up in the configuration, but when I created a test order to check and see how the email would look on the recipients end, nothing shows up. I have also the canceled order email set up as well but it is also not sending me a cancellation email. 

I am currently doing this in staging, is there another way for me to check the flow? Just want to make sure everything is looking good in staging before I push it live.

Please test your SMTP connection first, check SMTP details, also check in spam folders.

Hey! I checked the SMTP settings and it looks fine? We have sent emails in the past, but we stopped and I am trying to bring it back again. Any idea on what I should be doing to make sure that it's correct? We are using the default values. Any other ideas on what I should do in staging?

The settings for order confirmation has been updated and refers to the email template and email communications is not disabled.

Also, no email in my spam folder
